Big Swinging Heads Up Match
Yesterday I was playing heads up mostly vs one player in particular. I was doing well vs him, up around $5500 at $2000NL at which point he only had $500 left at the table. I don't like heads up matches when they get to this point but it is lame to demand a reload after you are winning a lot vs them so you have got to play it out!
Anyway, the inevitable obviously happened and he started doubling it back up. Not just your standard doubling it back up to even mind you, by the end of a further 3 hours of play he had a $27,000 stack and I was at $2000(again) down over $20,000 to him. Lol? Is it even possible. I was sure scratching my head. So why didn't you quit when you were down $10,000 or less like a disciplined player? Why? Because the guy was unquittable thats why. I had the clearest most defined massive edge vs him, it just wasn't showing any results. The other reason I couldn't quit was because there was a decent waiting list on the table and if I quit all these greedy little Scandis would have got it all =)
At this point I told him 1 min in chat and sat out to get my lunch, drink and wash my face praying he didn't leave. I decided in my head that I would be happy with getting $8000 or so back, a full come back obviously seeming impossible.
Looking at pokertracker I can see his low point was $380.
Without this hand no come back as I felt he was quitting without reloading again :-

A few more decent pots and then I ruin my small comeback with a bad bluff relative to the range that he will actually laydown =) Who cares if it is a $3000 bet he has to call, he snap called =) The one positive thing about this pot is that it shows if I do rush a little I have a chance of some sort of a comeback since he will make big calls with pairs.

If I had called and lost the above pot then perhaps this opportunity only 20 hands later may never have arisen, well it would have arisen but for a $4000 pot instead of for $23,000! The interesting thing about his call on the river is how much did my huge bluff earlier on the river when he called with only QJ, affect his decision here. He let his timer go all the way to the bottom before calling.

There was obviously a ton more hands that I didn't post but this is a good sample of some of the bigger pots. We played for many hours, over 1000 hands!
Even though I ended with a $28,000 stack my profit was only $6000, very sick session and amazingly lucky comeback! I was obviously very pleased with this outcome =)
Anyway, the inevitable obviously happened and he started doubling it back up. Not just your standard doubling it back up to even mind you, by the end of a further 3 hours of play he had a $27,000 stack and I was at $2000(again) down over $20,000 to him. Lol? Is it even possible. I was sure scratching my head. So why didn't you quit when you were down $10,000 or less like a disciplined player? Why? Because the guy was unquittable thats why. I had the clearest most defined massive edge vs him, it just wasn't showing any results. The other reason I couldn't quit was because there was a decent waiting list on the table and if I quit all these greedy little Scandis would have got it all =)
At this point I told him 1 min in chat and sat out to get my lunch, drink and wash my face praying he didn't leave. I decided in my head that I would be happy with getting $8000 or so back, a full come back obviously seeming impossible.
Looking at pokertracker I can see his low point was $380.
Without this hand no come back as I felt he was quitting without reloading again :-

If I had called and lost the above pot then perhaps this opportunity only 20 hands later may never have arisen, well it would have arisen but for a $4000 pot instead of for $23,000! The interesting thing about his call on the river is how much did my huge bluff earlier on the river when he called with only QJ, affect his decision here. There was obviously a ton more hands that I didn't post but this is a good sample of some of the bigger pots. We played for many hours, over 1000 hands!
Even though I ended with a $28,000 stack my profit was only $6000, very sick session and amazingly lucky comeback! I was obviously very pleased with this outcome =)
