Warcraft 3 Commentary and History
I was the first gamer as far as I'm aware to do commentaries in gaming. They became very popular and then everyone started doing them with whole websites dedicated to commentaries on gaming. Now it is just common place. For poker players - I was a very well known gamer, having played all of Blizzards RTS titles to a high standard from Warcraft 2 through Starcraft and Broodwar and finally?(well maybe, Starcraft 2 soon) culminating in Warcraft 3.
Here is a "Real" commentary from me that someone put up. It is a 4v4 FFA and was done for fun. The context for non gamers is that I am playing with 7 other random Warcraft 3 players whose average skill level will be weak to average. It was done only for a change as most of my commentaries were very high level games and nearly always 1v1. As you will see if you actually watch this commentary I get bored halfway through and start killing my team mates to spice up the game, it was really quite entertaining and a lot of my random laughing is in response to the stuff they are typing to me, they start begging me to stop killing them at points :). The commentary is done live whilst playing the actual game which was much trickier than it looks. I used to get paid $600 for every two commentaries I made by a subscription site back then. I did make the most downloaded commentaries back then! Remember this is from at least 5-6 years ago and also that I have to type to the other players, commentate and actually play the game at the same time. It is a shame this is the only one someone has uploaded, I have none of the scores of commentaries I must have made. Some really great games too as I used to only commentate on stuff where something interesting or novel took place. If you have any, please upload them =)
I was youtubing for Sky(As far as I'm aware the best Warcraft 3 player these days?) the other day and came across this video where someone commentates on a game of his whilst somehow pretending I'm also commentating on the match with him. He keeps asking me questions throughout the replay. It is quite surreal to watch. Probably using that old soundboard someone put together several years ago although I'm not sure.
Part 1.
Part 2.
I just found most of my results from Warcraft 3. I only played Warcraft 3 : Reign of Chaos. I never played The Frozen Throne seriously at all and gave up soon after its release.
War3 Beta Tournament : 1st Place (Made me famous right at the start of Warcraft 3)
Intel Masters Championships : 1st Place (Really professionally run UK tournament that only lasted one year, they invested way too much money in it obviously).
VGA Tournament : 1st Place (Forget what this even was, some nationwide networked Lan Tournament I think).
Warcraft Replays Tournament : 1st Place (Shrug).
Gamefixx Tournament : 1st Place playing under a secret alias. $5000 for first though.
Campus Party 2003 : 1st Place (Some HUGE and I mean HUGE lan played in Spain - Valencia, my mum still uses the Spanish Laptop I won there).
World Cyber Games 2003 in Seoul Korea : Silver Medal in Team event (I had recently switched to Humans as yes they were imbalanced =)) I won my solo group Stage 4-0 but then faced Grubby(has been one of the most successful Warcraft 3 player of the last 5 years) in the very next round who I lost 2-1 too in amazingly close games. He then went on to face Insomnia who he lost too. Not very fair since Human was not our natural race. Insomnia of course won the whole thing! Myself and another UK player called Bond surprisingly came 2nd in the team event. I came up with some strategies on the same day that took us right through to the finals where we lost to Chinese Taipei (Taiwan).
I took up poker professionally literally after arriving back from Korea.
And finally here's a blooper I found. Me getting a little angry at my Demon Hunter dying in a spot that he should never die. Must have been random damage, spiking on each hit.
Just for the record I haven't played a single game of Warcraft III in over 4 years. I will be trying Starcraft 2 obviously.

u were roc beta champ right tillerman? i still talk to alot of oldschoolers myself having played war3. old school clan TiMe, Marn, clan zA etc.. I hear sc2 beta is coming out in summer 09 according to a sc2 game balancer friend of mine working in irvine, hope you get a copy bro! would love to see you in sc2.
P.S Do you still talk any old 4K members? none interested in poker?
Damn, had to make a blogger account just to post this as well --
There are plenty of people over at WarcraftReplays.com who have your classic commentaries and still talk about you until this day.
Sky is one of the best current players, but the title of 'The Best' must go to Moon (Spirit_Moon). You might remember him as he used to play in the RoC days as well.
You were one of the best old skool RoC players Tiller, but just remember one thing: I owned your ass many times with my infamous 'siege push'.
Real Crazyassassin from USA?
[x] tillerman is a legend
here is another link, if you(tillerman) are not offended by it.

downwhere's files on filefrot.com --->http://hosted.filefront.com/downwhere
By any Chance, do you still have that replay on Gnoll Wood, where you get tower push your main and play 80% of the game with Blade Master and Mask of Death owning it all? (Next patch Blizz made Msk of Death not to stack with Critical Strike LOL)
I have seen many replays myself, and this one would definetly be top 3...
Anyhow, sorry if I look like a nerd posting all these weird words on a poker blog ;)
I don't have anything saved. Agent911 may have the entire INClan website saved which will have lots of juicy replays and stuff from the past.
I played roc since beta as well but never managed to get really high...i think my top rank was top 100 in 2v2. But I still remember your last commentary replay 1v1 v.s humans as if it was from yesterday. It had to be one of the funniest replays ever because it was true. I was also a UD player and the human army was always better in so many ways.
"if the human player has a 50 size army and you have a 50 size army and you fight...you can be sure as hell the human player will win the fight"
"the human army is better then your army! its unbelievable"
I actually have it saved somewhere.
I believe this was the downfall of your warcraft career? and pretty much after that replay you were gone.
You will always be remembered for that replay, you gotta admit its a pure classic video/commentary.
after tft and all the bs i just watched lightknight69 & hukyou videos how they would talk shit during the whole game attack bases with ghouls & just tp away everytime
any news/stories/comments of marn,lightknight69 or any other top players?
Sky's been on tilt since WCG last year.
Hmm I loved the Icantwin.com from agent911.
Everything prior 2000 is classic in my book...
Wish kali was still alive...
I still have a classic 2v2 replay of TillerMan / Maynard vs CrazyAssassin / CrazyJim
This was back in the very early days of RoC when the TheINClan and Clan Crazy were fierce rivals.
And lol @ Sky being on tilt since last years' WCG. Who wouldn't be, after Creo the donk got so many suckouts.
Please, please, please upload some of the replays if you find them.
Early ROC were the best times.
No 1998-2001 bw-era was the best time =]
My opinion though.
Sad that wc3 is now a lame game with mass towering
I still have the infamous "WHAT AM I GOING TO DEW?" Commentary that led to the creation of the soundboard etc back in the day.
^ Do you want me to upload that tiller?
Pffft- I owned you at War2. Of course I had to cheat at Spiral Low to do it.
Please PLEASE upload the "what can i dew" commentary!
Ok, upload it somewhere and link in comments.
^^
please put "what can i dewwwww" on youtube so i can MXTUBE it to my iphone and whenever i need to cheer up i can just launch the video
WHUT CEN EHHHHH DEEWWWWWW
whut cen ehhhh DEW?!?!?!?!

The question is: Who made this :)
Haha, yeh, that is not me obviously =) Sigh.

That's the original. But maybe the guy was just more skilled than tillerman, because he was soon on the first site of the ladder page while tillerman was still on the second.
The above is the real original commentary in MP3 format. Funny listening to that again.
Someone needs to join the MP3 with the replay like that guy did for the 4v4 one. Then link me it or put it on youtube and I'll put it on the site.
I don't know how to do it.
i have the replay along with the audio, i have no idea how to make it into a video tho, if someone told me, id upload it to youtube.
Sorry to leave so many messages. I couldnt work it out, here you go guys

Someone worked out how to do it. Must be with video recording software of the screen then video editing? One of you must be able to do it! =)
this blog post is getting epic, dont let it die:)
I played a game of Warcraft 2 tonight on some Russian server. I recognised nearly no one apart from Meat~ and everyone thought I was a fake TillerMaN.
I hear INcinerate, Ash, Ywfn, Valkrie still play on there sometimes. Seems way too dead to ever play again properly.
Starcraft 2 waiting....
^ O right, when you going to play a game on warcraft? :)
C
You played WC2? Why not WC3:TFT? I'm sure your old 4k clan mates Grubby and ToD would love to play some exhibition games with you :)
Do you remember your TillerPeon account?
Random 24-0
Human 24-0
Orc 24-0
Undead 24-0
Night Elf 24-0
Number 1 rank with only a peon icon.
It wasnt 24-0, but close :)

I seriously need to improve my poker game, I was wondering if we can play half an hour so you can record the session and tell me what I am doing wrong.
I can pay 15usd, which is 30usd an hour.

@ Callum
Ahh yes thanks. It's amazing the way selective memory works - We all think Tiller is an infallible god who makes no mistakes, but he's just like the rest of us. Kind of.
That ladder really brings back some good memories. Especially seeing the names of IceCastle.WeRRa and ReX.JYoung who were one of the first two Koreans to hit the US servers and totally own it up.
Yes, that brought back old memories. That record is great. First page of ladder with peon. Hehe!
Ok, I know sweat-FA about these kind of games other than just building units and picking a fight. I'm interested to know why you were so surprised he died. He was getting battered pretty hard and it looks like you took too long to withdraw him to a safe range? I mean is there any math/strategy involved or were you just keeping him in the fight as long as you felt you could and pulling him out based on your perception of timing (and clearly getting it wrong this time).
To help you understand how uneducated I am my level of thinking at computer games is probably below someone who's just figured out that a flush is better than a straight :D
Also, at the risk of sounding gay you are quite softly spoken and normal sounding for a weegie :D
^ You guys should check out some of the older pages. Quite amazing to see how good players records were back then, Crazyassassin's account was immense, 1500 icon 93% win rate.
Well back then the way ladder worked was very different to today's 'AMM' which matches you up against similar skilled opponents. So I guess CrazyAssassin's gosu stats wasn't THAT impressive, but still impressive nonetheless.
I can't wait for Starcraft II to come out as it will be really interesting to see how the current crop of pro Warcraft gamers go against Starcraft pros. I reckon it will be closer than what people think.
Kenny, that particular strategy on that map was one a lot of people did to get a quick good drop from the creeps and tons of experience. On watching it back I noticed I must have misclicked near the shop instead of the item drop as the Demon Hunter moves forward slightly forward which gives the creeps an extra 1 or 2 shots.
My disgust is justified though as that is a 1 in 100 type deal. He should get out of there every time with a tiny bit of health and then heal at the moon wells in my base.
Also many people comment on my accent and I have no idea why it is not more glaswegian sounding. Always lived here.
Tiller
"Also many people comment on my accent and I have no idea why it is not more glaswegian sounding. Always lived here."
I think to truly adopt the accent you need to have downed several bottles of bucky and know the feeling of thrusting steel into an innocent persons belly ;)
Well I still think that Crazyassassins stats were still something good. How do you think you would fair in todays warcraft 3 seen tiller?
He still sounds very Glaswegian, a Glaswegian that drunk bucky sounds very very different. If you think tiller is bad, you should hear a pissed off Aberdonian.
somebody should make a top 10 warcraft 3 tillerman moments?
or top 10 war3/poker tillerman moments?
should be fun, put up a contest what people can come up with tillerman!
When I get back from my holiday I'm going to do a TillerMaN "Ned" soundboard/commentary. good luck to anyone outside Glasgow that can understand it.
"I'll pure boot yer baws ya dyin' jakiehunter bast..."
Hey tiller
Saw you playing 50/100 6max last night…..
Some questions:
Whats up?
Any interesting hands?
What happened to HU only?
Why you playing so high?
Winning month or chasing losses?
How do you manage to keep up focus on poker?
Should I just mind my own business?
Thanks for answering all, some or none.
Speak soon over beers.
The Magic Roundabout Designer.
Does Showtime.WeRRa still play? I used to worship him and Hazeem (I was an orc player) and always watched their replays...
Hi Graham.
Not much.
Only one vs Flavflav hu (Snake8484) - I had KK, I raise , he reraise to 1050, I reraise to 2450. He push with TT. I call I win 20k. As Durrr would say - Standardddd.
Was big fish when I started and I play bigger when 2-3 tabling. I play 2/5 to 5/10 when 10 tabling.
Winning month. Wasn't down.
Hard to keep focus. Lots of other activities beside poker and poker is doable.
No.
See you on Friday at Cincinatti if you go.
Hey Tillerman maybe its the time you log on that you don't see many people. Incinerate plays on the name StuGrimson, he is logged on right now.
Im sure if you logged on at the right time you would recognize so many people. (DI)KHB, (DI)Ash, (DI)Scrubbo, YWFN, ArchAngel, Tarquinn, Valkrie, Meat, Cloud, Axo, Kith, Pimster, GuanYu
Anyways hope you try us out again.
Can you add our site link http://server.war2.ru ? Really would be a nice way to support warcraft 2.
I still remember the CrazyAssassin vs Hazeem replays on warcraftreplays.com... 17 forum pages and 15-20k downloads. That was fun times. I hope SC2 creates some fun memories like that.
War3 has turned into a boring mess.
Hey TillerMaN ... would you be willing to do a couple SC commentaries as sort of a "blast from the past"? The pro starcraft scene on youtube has really taken off lately and it would be pretty amazing to see you comment a couple games with some of the current commentators (KlazartSC, Moletrap, CholeraSC).
my sister is your still talk. very good blog thans. www.duygugelinlik.com
I have some Starcraft recorded games with commentary I did for XGamers. Suck it!
IN-Python
Showtime.Werra was the best ROC and warcraft3 TFT player everyone knows that..
Omg I miss you tillerman, I became a premium member of warcraftstrategy.com just for your commentarys, that 4v4RT game commentary you did was so funny. What made it even funnier was that there was no indication that you were doing that and all of sudden your like "ok im gonna focus fire his archmage", I was like omg hahahhahahha.
there are still people playing RoC, i still am and a few of the other old school players are its a bit of a laugh you should give it a go :O
