Some Hands

I feel it is time for a post perhaps? Maybe something poker related? I know, how about some Poker hands!

History before the first hand to put in context for the real hand :-

Some random guy limps UTG four handed and I raise on the button to $80 with 88. We are both deep stacked with him having $4795 and me having around $5000. This is at $2000NL. Everyone else folds and he calls my raise.

The flop comes 244. He checks and I also check(I was busy on other tables and made a mistake here, this is a clear betting spot).
The turn comes the 3. He checks and I bet $160 into the $190. He minimum raises to $320. Weird. I call.
The river is the 2. He instantly pushes all in for $4395 into the $830 pot. I snap folded putting him on any four or perhaps quads. I had also not played any hands with him and was also busy on other tables when this hand took place. Pretty automatic fold though.

He turns over AJ revealing an insane bluff. If he was trying to get my attention he certainly got it. I put some renewed focus onto this table after this hand. Lol.

Soon after I picked up KK in the small blind. The same guy who did the above bluff decides to open limp on the button three handed. I raise to $110 from the small blind and the big blind folds. The button calls my raise.

The flops comes J48. I bet $200 into the $240 pot. He minimum raises me to $400. I then snap minimum raise him to $800. Risky, but he does what I suspect he might do and pushes all in for his entire $5100 stack. I snap call. A scary deep stacked prospect usually but not after the previous hand =)

He turns over QJ.
The turn comes the 4 and the river comes the K.

I scoop the $9892 pot. I haven't seen anyone play this way deep stacked for a long long time at the higher limit ring games. Nice novelty =)

It seems my other databases are empty for some reason. Sigh. I'll mess with it in the morning and see what is up. If not I'll post some from memory.

NH, perfect thing to do against him in this situation.
There are also lots of draws who push over you.

His Bluff might be insane but i think its probably +ev, because a 4 ist just not part of your range.
At least i would guess that you would bet the small part of your preflop range that contains a 4 on the flop.
Well maybe because of a misclick like in this hand, but thats a longshot.

Hi, I was hoping for a little advice, recently Ive had to give up my job, this was due to my partner leaving me with 3kids. Obviously now until the little ones get to school, Im on income support, which is about two years.

Ive been playing poker for 3years, and have won some money in freerolls, and had alittle success in cash games since Ive deposited money ever so often.

Ive decided to take it alittle more seriously and have what i thought ws an ambitous target of $35 profit everyday, I started Thursday 20th Dec and Im $180 up, I started with only bankrroll I could afford which was $100. I've withdraw $150 which ws my originally stake plus half and now comfotably have an $135 bankroll, so this is my question, any chance of any free help and advice. I have poker office and logg every game. I currently play mainly 15c/30c 10seat ring games, and my play is described as semt-tight aggressive pre and post. my email address is gnomes_gnuts@hotmail.co.uk, if you are on messenger it would be nice if you could add me, or you could just send me an email if you think you would be kind enough to want to help,

Many Thanks
Naomi

Naomi if you want help and advice here's one: read on bankroll management. With $135 you are not rolled for 15c/30c. You can build a bankroll out of nothing, but do not play at levels you're not rolled for. You could be cold decked and/or taking bad beats and a downsing would wipe your roll. I've turned $40 into $994. With $994 I only play 10c/20c. When I reach $1000 (supposedly tomorrow) I'll start giving 25c/50c a try. Do not play at limits your are not rolled for. Read on bankroll management.

Hey Tiller, could you explain why you put him on 44 or suited connectors with a 4 on the first hand and not A5 (maybe suited)?

Because Partner, the board is 22443 and if someone with A5 bets $4500 into an $800 pot how can they expect to be paid by anything except a hand with a 4 in it.

If you've played poker as long as I have you will know from experience that when someone overpushes this way into a pot like this in a "ring" game setting then they have the top full or better here 99.5% of the time.

So in essence I put him on the top full here just by default as an unknown player to me because I have a 0.5% chance of him having less than this normally. It was one of those very rare 1 time in 200 or more shots that they are actually bluffing in this spot.

And there are some players who when they overbet like this can NEVER have a bluff, so it is like 100% chance of them having at least a full house here.

This style of overbet is for all intents and purposes usually the nuts on a transparent board like this. This was one of the rare instances of it not being so.
