Serious Issue Resolved (Finally)
OK - a couple of weeks ago I had one of my poker accounts "compromised". Whoever accessed my account was in the process of trying to clear it out when I happened to try and log in at the same time.
Had it not been for that lucky coincidence I would have lost a lot more than the $30,000 they managed to lose playing on my account.
I managed to get the account frozen while they were playing on it and since then I have been involved in a complex investigation with the poker site in question to try and figure out how this happened which has taken a significant amount of time and effort on my part.
The issue was resolved today and my money has been refunded in full - hopefully they will be able to catch the person involved and bring criminal charges against him/her for the serious fraud that they have committed, possibly resulting in jail time...(with any luck).
We know where the hacker is from, including their I.P. address & for this reason I won't be naming the poker site or giving any more specific information regarding this issue in case it jeopardises their further investigations.
Now back to some Poker!!

Account passwords should be encrypted and never accessible to support staff. Support staff should not be allowed to change e-mail addys without manager sign-off. All clients should contain an "only allow log on from this computer" option."

Any idea how he hacked your account? I know the fossilman had the same issue on Stars, but they had guessed his password...

argh the same thing happened to raszi a long time ago. Hope you don't get hacked again in the future i've been hacked before too when i was young and it sux more than anything.

Hmm. I suspected this. I was floating around on "a poker site" and browsed on to the high limit games. Your account was in use and rebuying at the equivalent of $16,000. There were more than a few loose calls and I recall an all in with 10 10 vs QQ on a rag flop. Was this the other player or did you just run into a monster? ;)
Glad it's sorted. By the way, have you been to Cincinatti's recently? Thought I saw an archive that said you played there. I've not been in a while due to some clients with 'rage' problems, was thinking about checking out a sunday game in the next few weeks.

Gankzilla, so it is not just me that is surprised by the amount of Scottish poker players with rage issues in the local casinos. Chances of a punch up or extreme verbal abuse seem about 1 chance in 2 on any given night!
I guess the £5 or £10 buyin is worth fighting over, literally :)

Glad to hear everything worked out OK for you. This kind of thing is very worrying - I have more money online than in any of my bank accounts. Aside from the obvious things like anti-virus, firewall etc. how can I really protect myself? I would be very happy to have an "access only from this I.P. address or terminal" option...
But why can't you name the site? Legal reason? Kickback:)?

This is already the case on every Poker site I would assume.
At least on PokerStars support staff, managers, no-one can change a players email address (without being logged on through the client of course), and account passwords are similarly not available to anyone at all.
You would assume wrong then unfortunately :(
I have my entire net wealth in my poker accounts (all of it on one site currently). If this happened to me I would be finished, out of business & effectively unable to work. Poker sites make *so* much in rake from the players and interest on the money they hold - *surely* they should be able to offer something to those that want it that is *at least* as secure as online banking..?
